She may have just bought a ticket to his show last night. An acoustic set at a bowling alley with no fewer than three guitarists. A new EP at the end of this year, mixed and mastered by his long-time friend and collaborator Tim Pierce. It’s basically the life you could only dream of. The perfect job, a nice house, cars and a new baby on the way. Like many other bands from the Nashville area, in between the warm and fuzzy moments, he’s had to face the reality of getting a real job. And that means his new songs, like the new ones on his fourth full-length album, are slightly more gritty.
What’s that? You want to know what the new songs sound like? We got you covered. Hear the album for yourself below. It comes out tomorrow, August 7th, via Fat Cat Records.
What are you guys playing? We’re playing songs from the new record, as well as some from the first two albums and a few from our self-titled release. We’ll be hitting songs from these records between songs from the new album.
How’d it come together? We started recording our new album almost a year ago in December of 2013. Then after a few months of mixing we made the decision to go ahead with the record. The songs are written but it hasn’t been on record until now.
How’s the response been? We’ve had very positive reactions. It’s been very surprising. But people are just really good about appreciating it. It’s helped us.
Your new record comes out tomorrow. How’s that been? We didn’t even know it was coming out. We didn’t start working on it until after the winter holidays. Then it just kind of went on.
How did you end up with that new record label? We’ve been with Fat Cat since we started.$
